| Newbury MP, Richard Benyon, has sent warm congratulations to bereaved train crash victim David Main and his son Toby for their High Court victory. The Court decided that Mr Main and his son are entitled to Legal Aid for the inquest into the death of Mr Main’s wife Anjanette and her daughter, Louella, in the Ufton Nervet Rail Crash. Richard has campaigned on Mr Main’s behalf and is angered that the Government took it to court in the first place.
“This case has cost a great deal more than the original £13,000 of legal aid requested. I told the Minister concerned that this case was causing unnecessary heartache to this family and was delaying the inquest into this accident for many other families. It is an absurd waste of taxpayers’ money taking a case to court that, even if Ministers had won, would have cost more than Mr Main was asking for in Legal Aid. The Minister was contesting a recommendation from the Government’s own Legal Services Commission which said Mr Main should get Legal Aid for this inquest.” |
