| After months of uncertainty, the much vaunted synthetic ice rink will be available in the newly refurbished Market Place from Wednesday next (20th December).
The ice rink will be officially launched at 3.00pm, live on air by Kick FM who will be sharing the first hour with winners of a competition organised by the Newbury Weekly News. Already several sessions on the rink have been fully booked by local companies and sponsors.
The idea of the ice rink was originally put forward by the market traders, who thought that they would be trading in Northbrook Street for Christmas. This would have left the Market Place clear for the ice rink and other Christmas related activities.
The Charter Market will also be trading alongside the ice rink on 21st 22nd and 23rd December. The Farmers Market will be trading there on Friday 22nd.
All traffic apart from buses travelling South from Northbrook Street will be prohibited from using the Market Place.
Individuals using the rink will pay a fixed charge, adults £3.00 and under 16’s £2.00 for the hire of skates and the use of the rink for set periods of 20 minutes. |
