Fruity discount store for Northbrook Street
02nd September 2006 8.31am

Next Plc, the U.K.'s third-largest clothing retailer, will be opening a chain of discount clothing stores to compete with retailers such as New Look and Primark. Newbury and Derby have been chosen as the locations for the first stores.

The new store to be known as Lime, will open in Newbury on Sept. 16, replacing the existing Next store which is closed for the refit.

Sales at Next have fallen recently as discounters such as Primark and New Look attract customers seeking to keep up with the latest fashion looks without over-stretching their budget. Next also has to contend with a sales recovery at M & S, the UK's largest clothing retailer.

The Next outlet on the Newbury Retail Park will continue to trade with the traditional range of products. The close proximity of the two stores coupled with the recent refurbishment of Northbrook Street has probably influenced the decision to choose Newbury as one of the first sites for the new chain.
