| Police are appealing for witnesses following a grievous bodily harm that happened between 11.55pm on Monday 31 July and 12.08 on Tuesday 1 August, in Newbury.
A 23-year-old man was walking from the direction of West Mills towards Northcroft Lane. He had crossed the Monkey Bridge and had started to walk across the cricket pitch when he was hit around the head from behind. After falling to the floor, he was punched and kicked about the face and chest and eventually lost consciousness.
He was discovered by a friend, who took him to Royal Berkshire Hospital, where he received treatment for a broken jaw, lacerations to his left cheek, a laceration to his right eye and a bruised chest.
PC Mary Currie, based at Newbury police station, said: “This is a vicious unprovoked attack that has left the victim with some very nasty injuries. I would appeal to anyone that might have been in the area at the time who might have witnessed the attack or seen anyone acting suspiciously to get in touch. We would especially like to hear from three males that the victim passed just after the Monkey Bridge.”
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact PC Currie at Newbury police station via 0845 8 505 505, or if you don’t want to talk to police or give your name, call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111. |
