| Newbury police are searching for a cat burglar who scaled the walls of the Kennet Centre multistorey and made off with £1500 from the two new parking machines in an audacious raid.
Newbury.net can reveal that the crafty thief struck in the early hours of Sunday after finding a recess next to J Finance, and climbing up to gain access to the car park. CCTV cameras failed to detect anyone acting suspiciously.
The raid comes after West Berkshire Council spent £100,000 turning the car park from pay and display to pay on foot, in response to repeated requests from town retailers. The car park has also won an accolade for being one of the safest in the country. |
