Tragedy for black swans at West Mills
24th June 2006 13.32pm

Residents of West Mills were distraught this morning to discover that tragedy had befallen the family of black swans.

The male swan was dead and another of the chicks had disappeared. This leaves the female and one chick. There is no obvious reason for the death of the male, although there is a theory that the family was attacked by the other swans on the canal.

In another incident yesterday, the RSPCA called the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service to retrieve a pigeon trapped in the netting on the roof of the Lock Stock and Barrel.
