| Newbury town centre is on course for two blocks of flats four times the usual density. West Berkshire Council is deciding whether to give its landlord permission to flatten Avonbank House and Northcroft House in West Street, and build 61 flats.
Newbury Town Council, the police and seven local residents have all objected, and the scheme will have 50 parking spaces, but 62 cycling spaces.
The recommended density is up to 50 units per hectare, but this scheme is 213 per ha. The council will rule on the application on Wednesday. |
