| Newbury firm Vodafone handed out £500 prizes to a handful of volunteers and charity workers recently.
The firm hired newsreader Martyn Lewis for the first event of this kind, held at the Vodafone HQ in Shaw last month.
Foundation chairman Alan Harper said: “We had over 370 nominations ranging from volunteering as a school governor and pro bono legal work for small charities, to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. An independent panel of judges chose the Vodafone team who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro as overall winners, awarding them £1000 towards the National Autistic Society.
Although Vodafone makes £21,000 profit every minute, the Foundation has a budget of just a few million pounds to support a variety of good causes across the UK. |
