| People on Newbury’s Nightingales estate are gathering next week to discuss exciting new plans for the 600-home estate.
Sovereign Housing Group has been working with residents to come up with a raft of improvements to the environment on the estate, including demolishing unused garages, and creating new parking plazas.
More tree-lined green space, better fencing to secure back gardens, and new footpaths are also proposed to improve the quality of life of all residents.
Sovereign owns half the homes on the Nightingales, and is leading on improvements designed to create a safer, cleaner community for the whole estate. This follows extensive consultation, when residents said they most concerned by litter, vandalism, flytipping and a lack of play areas.
As a result, Sovereign hired community architect Joe Holyoak to work with residents in small groups around the estate, and his drawings will be on display on the night.
Sovereign Regeneration Coordinator Lisa Denison said: “We’ve been consulting on the next phase of improvements, and would urge all residents to come and see what’s in store for their part of the estate.”
Sovereign is Newbury’s biggest landlord, and has worked with residents to create a regeneration plan for the estate in 2002. Since then, two new play areas, CCTV, improved lighting and extra youth facilities have been added. Also, neighbourhood wardens have been patrolling the area to round up abandoned shopping trolleys, report abandoned cars, and liaise with youngsters.
The meeting starts at 6pm on December 8, and Greenham Community Association is laying on a buffet and glass of wine. |
