| This Sunday (23rd October), you can enjoy the Lambourn countryside. The farmer-guided walk At Sheepdrove Farm will give you an opportunity to hear, first hand, what farmers do and why they do it. Where your food comes from, the history of the farm, how the local landscape has changed and more will be explained throughout the walk. You will learn about current farming practices and also what lies ahead in the future.
Sheepdrove Organic Farm is a family-run, mixed organic farm of over 2000 acres (800 hectares) owned by Peter and Juliet Kindersley. Peter and Juliet's long term vision is for a farm that is truly sustainable; supporting wildlife and the environment, investing in its people, and achieving a profit while having high animal welfare standards and enabling livestock to express natural behaviour.
The farm has sheep, free-range poultry, cattle, and pigs in an organic field rotation with arable crops. Set high on the Berkshire Downs, ancient sheep drovers' routes link the farm to the famous Ridgeway Track across a rolling landscape. From the very start, Sheepdrove Organic Farm has worked to boost Biodiversity (the variety of living things) by working with nature, not against it. This is a crucial part of the farm's mission to create a holistically successful organic farm on the soils of what was once an intensive chemical farming system.
