Assault in West Mills

POLICE are investigating an incident in which a man was pushed into the canal and lost his £400 pair of glasses.

The incident happened in West Mills, Newbury, at 2.30am on 25 September and the 33-year-old victim, who lives in the town, attended the front counter at the town’s police station to report the incident.

He was walking alone alongside the canal when he was approached by a group of youths who began speaking to him and pushed him in the water. He got out uninjured but shaken and realised he had also lost his glasses.

The incident is being treated as assault and is being investigated by Pc Andy Woods. Those who can help are asked to contact him via 0845 8 505 505. Those who do not wish to speak to the police are asked to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
