More hairdressers

Newbury’s apparent insatiable appetite for haircuts looks set to continue, with news of another crimper setting up in town. The Cycle Shop in Cheap Street closed last month after disappointing sales in one of the toughest retail market’s for more than 20 years. However, their departure has created more room for another hairdressers called Barbarellas. This takes the number of barbers in town to an astonishing 26.

More flats

Another 13 flats are on the cards for south Newbury. JP Motors garage in Newtown Road has applied for nine two-bedroom flats and four one-bedroom, but have promised to retain the art deco front wall, which is listed.
