| Plans to rip up a car park and ban cars from entering the Market Place look set to go-ahead, after public consultation revealed 78% of respondents support the idea – newbury.net can reveal.
Thousands of survey forms had been returned to West Berkshire Council, to garner support for the £900,000 scheme to replace the £400,000 revamp from seven years ago with imported Italian granite cobbles, plus trees and benches, to create a continental piazza.
Work is expected to start in January, and to finish before the summer, meaning that the market will have to be moved. After that, traders such as Le Petit Square, Brighteyes and Bobtails, and The Furniture Store will have to get their deliveries before 10am or after 6pm. |
