| The East Woodhay Silver band will present their 7th concert at The Corn Exchange on Saturday 24 September, with guest soloist tenor horn player Owen Farr.
Owen, teaches brass at the Royal Northern College of Music, The Birmingham Conservatoire and The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He was a British National Solo Champion at the age of 14, and currently holds the principal horn position with Welsh Champions Buy as you View Band. Previously, Owen played principal horn with the double national champion winning Fairy FP (Music) Band, and if all this isn’t enough, he is also Tenor Horn soloist with the world famous SONAR Brass quintet.
Owen will not only be accompanied by the band but will also play in a horn feature with the resident horn section including 12 year old Stephanie Horne who will appear on this concert stage for the first time. Owen will also have a few tricks up his sleeve to keep the band and the audience on their toes.
The band, under the baton of Jeremy Willis, will also play a selection of their own favourite pieces including music to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of the 2nd World War.
The East Woodhay Silver band has been entertaining at Fetes, Garden Parties and concerts in the Newbury area for over 120 years. They have their own purpose built band room in the hamlet of Heath End on the Hampshire/Berkshire border. They meet every Monday evening and always welcome new players. They also have trainers from within the band who can teach people to play a brass instrument to the standard where they can join the thriving training band, which meets on a Tuesday evening.
The band’s Musical Director is Mike Ward from Swindon, who is ably assisted by Jeremy Willis who will be conducting the concert at The Corn Exchange. |
