A stitch in time for Newbury College
13th May 2005 0.9am

Newbury College student Clare Willis has set up her own business designing tapestry and cross-stitch kits after attending a course at Newbury College.

She set up Hollyhocks after completing a dressmaking and needlework course at the Monks Lane campus, where she was persuaded to turn a hobby into a business.

Clare said: "I’ve had an interest in needlework and crafts since I was a child and it is something that I have always enjoyed and as both my children have gone to school I decided to enrol on the course and Anne Matthews who taught me has helped me develop my skills so I could turn my hobby into a business. Although it is early days I am very excited about the future.”

Needlework tutor Anne Matthews added: “Clare showed creativity throughout the course and has done very well, and I wish her the best of luck with Hollyhocks”

Clare has also trained to design websites through the college, and runs her business from near Reading.
