Newbury Town Council supports new Cricket Cup
11th May 2005 7.57am

The inaugural competition in the Newbury six aside cricket competition was held on the playing fields of St Bartholomew’s School last Sunday, 8 May when 8 teams competed for the Mayor of Newbury’s Cup.

The competition was devised and organised by the Lamb Inn, whose licensees Michael and Helen Singleton were the hosts, supported by Dave Twosheds who devised the rules and the Lamb’s cricket captain, Nigel Whiston.

Leagues of 4 teams played on each pitch and there were playoffs for the top four places. The eventual winners, Trinity School; posted a score of 72 in the final, which proved just too much for Newbury Police.

Other teams represented were Park House School, St Bartholomew’s School, Nomads, The Lamb, The Plough and the Mayor of Newbury’s Team.

All sides enjoyed the day and when the Mayor of Newbury presented the trophies, he complemented the organisers on their success.

The photo shows the Mayor of Newbury, captain of his side for the day, batting with the Newbury Town Council, Chief Executive Officer, Graham Hunt.
