| Two shops in Northbrook Street are to be demolished to make way for a new sidestreet connecting the proposed Park Way shopping mall to the town’s high street. Jeweller H Samuel will quit the town on May 26, after its lease expires, and Swift Dry Cleaners is understood to be relocating to Weavers Walk, so that the site can be knocked through. The new street is to be called East Street.
The council also plans to pedestrianise Park Way, and the new shopping centre will be in place by 2009. |
