Patient Information Point
14th April 2005 8.12am

The Patient Information (PIP) provides impartial information to the public about all kinds of medical conditions and ancillary services and is based at the new West Berkshire Community Hospital.

After just one year of operation the newly formed Patient Information Point service run by a team of Volunteers has scooped the Community Hospitals prize for Patient and Public Information category. Judges visited the project three weeks ago and were shown around the service by Chairman of The Management Committee Garry Poulson and the schemes officer Judy McCulloch. Judges were greatly impressed by this innovative service (the first of its kind in a community Hospital) and just two weeks later they were told of the prize which is to be collected at a National Conference in October.

Garry Poulson says “ The PIP came about as a true working partnership between several voluntary groups and the Primary Care Trust coming together to create this important service which provides trained volunteers who are able to give patients information about all kinds of medical conditions and ancillary services. This award is testimony to what can be achieved when organisations come together with a common goal. We are particularly pleased for the volunteers with out whom we could not operate.
