Local paper goes tabloid!
20th January 2005 04.20am

As previously revealed on newbury.net (November 26th), the Newbury Weekly News is now being published in the tabloid format. This follows the installation of a brand new printing press at their Faraday Road premises.

After weeks of feverish activity the first edition in the new format is on the shelves today (Thursday). The price remains unchanged at 42p.

The first edition of the newspaper was published way back in 1867, when J. Walter Blacket and Thomas W Turner combined their talents to produce a newsheet using methods which are a far cry from todays computerised technology.

Over 7,800 editions have been published over the years providing an invaluable source of news and information for Newbury and surrounding villages
