Easy pickings in Northbrook Street
25th November 2004 10.37am

An opportunist thief struck lucky on Tuesday evening in Northbrook Street. Securicor were on a routine visit to the cashpoint at the Nationwide Building Society just before 9.00pm.

The person filling up the cash machine placed a suitcase style bag on the pavement besides him/her. A few seconds later, a male of Asian appearance walked past and grabbed the bag, running off down the alley towards Northcroft.

The thief is understood to have got away with £14,000. The case was not locked and did not contain any dye which would have made the notes unusable.
