Cyclists lobby for new bridge
24th November 2004 12.15pm

Cycling activists are preparing to lobby West Berkshire Council to install a new cycle-bridge at Newbury Railway Station, newbury.net can reveal.

The lobby group, headed by chairman of Newbury planning committee Cllr Tony Vickers, wants a new bridge building over the line, somewhere between the platform and Blackboys Bridge.

Currently, there are no cyclepaths on either Blackboys Bridge or the A339, meaning cyclists have to dice with death on the roads, or break the law and cycle on the pavements.

West Berkshire Spokes is preparing a list of routes it wants upgrading by 2010 across the town. It recently enjoyed success by persuading West Berkshire Council over the controversial redesign of St Johns Roundabout.
