Pinchington Lane tip is to have a new road layout to bring an end to the weekend queues making life a misery for thousands. Biffa has revealed plans to improve the site layout, making it easier to get in and out, and quicker for people to unload their household and garden waste.
Dole count down
West Berkshire’s unemployment rate has gone down to 0.8 per cent. Just 760 people are claiming dole in October, according to official data. Overall, the district still has one of the most active workforce’s in the UK, and there are 200 less people registered jobless than this time last year.
Flats turned down
Plans to flatten a terrace of six homes and build 44 flats in Craven Road have been turned down by West Berkshire Council. The ambitious scheme by Renaissance Habitat was thought to be too dense.
Elusive Elf
Plans to demolish the former Elf garage in London Road into a shop and fast food outlet have failed to impress town planners. Elmcrest Development bought the site from TotalfinaElf when the French oil firm decided to focus on its Andover Road filling station, and auctioned off the site on the corner of Faraday Road. |
