| Railway back to normal
The Newbury to Reading line resumed normal service today after being damaged in the Ufton Nervet crash 10 days ago. Newbury’s London commuters have had to take a coach to Didcot, or take the Waterloo line from Whitchurch while accident inspectors pieced together the final moments before the Plymouth express hit a stationery car on the Ufton level crossing.
Sign of the times
Market Place restaurant Sustenance is hoping to improve its signage to attract more clubbers to the town’s newest nightspot, which opens imminently. Co-owner Sian Pandelidis set up the restaurant last year with Vince Ryan, and is about to reopen the former Genesis nightclub, as revealed on this site, in the next few weeks.
Town portal to top 200
More and more people from near and far are taking part in exciting online debates about Newbury. The Newbury.net forum is expecting to top 200 members this week, with participants now joining in from Northern Ireland, Greece, Australia, and even Kingsclere!
Palace for top nosh
New world restaurant Madagascan Gin Palace has emerged as Newbury’s favourite eaterie by a country mile. More than 600 of you took part in our online poll, and one in five voted for the Inch’s Yard restaurant – the only place in town where ostrich is served. Indian restaurant Ellora, and pasta house Prezzo both shared just under 12% to take joint second place. Pekinese restaurant Laurel came fourth, and Alfredos Spanish tapas bar fifth. |
