Mayor in Fowl Crisis
12th November 2004 16.56pm

The Mayor of Newbury Councillor Mike Rodger lost his source of newly-laid eggs recently when wild mink performed a daring midnight raid in Kennet Road.

All four hens were killed in the raid, leaving Mike with just one headless chicken.

Apparently, the wild mink are becoming particularly prevalent in the area. Many of this years ducklings on the Kennet & Avon canal have also fallen victim to the mink.

Numbers of wild mink have increased dramatically in the south of England following their release from the mink farms by the animal rights protesters.
