New restrictions on fireworks
14th October 2004 9.34am

Local police now have new powers to crack down on firework misuse. There is an on-the-spot £80 penalty for those breaking the law.

The new law states that you cannot set off fireworks after 11.00pm. There are three exceptions to this. Bonfire Night, Diwali and New Years Eve.

Minors are also prohibited from carrying or using fireworks. There are also new laws to prevent the yobbish element from letting off fireworks in the street.

Many Newbury residents have been disturbed in the past by late night firework parties throughout the summer months.
