Camera defacements still in place
25th August 2004 09.54am

A close up of the camera lettering
Speed cameras in Newbury are still displaying their 'political message' today after the message "piggy bank" mysteriously appeared over monday night.

The perpetrator is still unknown, but we understand that the police have been in touch with local suppliers of this type of stick on lettering.

The lettering has been professionaly produced and it of the stick on/transfer type as opposed to a spray painted stencil as previously suggested.

The cameras affected are the two between St John's Roundabout and the mini-roundabouts near Budgens, the camera on Hambridge Road, and the camera on Newtown Road. Cameras outside Park House school and in Speen have not been defaced.

UPDATE
The lettering has now been removed. The cameras were 'restored' this morning some time between 9.30 and 10.30.
