Online journey through 1000 acres of heath
13th August 2004 23.40pm

The fascinating story of Greenham Common has proved a big hit for readers across the planet since launching a year ago.

The Greenham Common site provides a virtual tour of the 1000 acre wilderness, ranging through stone age settlements to the awesome stand off between protestors and armed forces over nuclear weapons.

Each story is told in a series of seven themes, with text, photographs, and objects collected from local newspaper archives and Newbury museum.

The site is well put together to tell the story of this extraordinary corner of England.

The website was supported by a grant of £137,000.00 from the National Lottery’s “New Opportunities Fund” and was launched on August 15th 2003.
