Tex mex heading for town
13th August 2004 12.09pm

One of Newbury’s top pubs is understood to be bringing in a tex-mex menu in the coming months.

The Snooty Fox in Bartholomew Street is to restore the upper floor of the pub as a restaurant area, with 16 tables and a spicy Mexican menu.

Similar ideas have worked well elsewhere in town – the Canal Bar has the Sukothai Thai kitchen popular with spice fans.

The Snooty Fox underwent a big revamp two years ago, shortly after landlord Peter Griffin moved in, turning it into one of the liveliest weekend pubs in Newbury.

The pub dates from 1875, when the Globe Inn was demolished on the bridge – where LloydsTSB now stands – and the barstaff simply moved all the fixtures into the former grain suppliers over the road.
