Next year's King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes will be held at Newbury Racecourse. Next year, 2005 is the centenary year for Newbury Racecourse and this event will enable our local racecourse to celebrate in style.
Major refurbishment at Ascot next year has resulted in a sharing out of its major events amongst other race courses.
York will host Royal Ascot in June and it has now been confirmed that Newbury will host the King George meeting from July 22-24.
"Newbury, as a local Grade One track of the highest quality, is the natural temporary home for the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes," said Ascot chief executive Douglas Erskine-Crum.
Newbury officials have expressed delight at the announcement, with managing director Mark Kershaw saying: "The team at Newbury are delighted with the opportunity to stage this prestigious meeting in our centenary year and to keep one of the feature races of the flat season in Berkshire."
