Tory Top Dog in town today
22nd July 2004 10.59am

Leader of the Conservative Party Michael Howard will be visiting Newbury today. He will be accompanying Chief Inspector Robin Rickard of Thames Valley Police to discuss the National Reassurance Policing Programme being piloted on the Nightingales Estate at Greenham.

Afterwards he is expected to go walkabout in the Market Place. Unfortunately we cannot advise you of timing. When we contacted the market traders this morning they were totally unaware of the visit.

Newbury was a Conservative stronghold until David Rendel (Lib Dem) swept to power in the 1993 by-election with a majority of 22,055 votes.
