Phoenix Brewery appeal due
14th June 2004 16.21pm

THE PHOENIX Brewery, off Bartholomew Street, is to appeal against it's refusal of a Public Entertainment licence, and the hearing date has been set for 16th July.

The original application was refused by West Berkshire Council, mainly due to objections from the local police. However an appeal is now in full swing, and the owners are also applying for an on-licence and an extended hours licence as part of the ongoing process.

Mark Smith, owner of the brewery, said "The bar and restaurant will be aimed at people aged 25 and above, who want a sophisticated but fun evening dining with an international menu and listening to live jazz, soul and blues either from live bands or house DJs". He continued, "The atmosphere will be relaxed and informal, with emphasis on quality of service within a distinctive and unusual environment."
