Nearly 2,500 motorists have been fined over the last three months for
contravening the new traffic regulations on Park Way Bridge.
New regulations came into force in October, which limited the use of the bridge to buses, taxis and bicycles. Although the restrictions are clearly signed, many motorists have chosen to ignore the signs.
A total of 2,274 penalty tickets have so far been issued by West Berkshire Council. The fine is £60.00, reduced to £30.00 if paid within 14 days. Even at the lower rate, this is an income of £68,220.00 to boost the council's coffers.
Many motorists are disputing the fine saying that the signs are insufficient. Our photograph shows the south side of the bridge where the signs are clearly visible along with extra markings in the road.

What is the view from the north end, not that it would be a good excuse?

No, but they are signs. If you don't understand them, then why ignore them? What did they think the word 'only' meant?
"Oh look, there's a few signs, they seem to be referencing buses, taxis and cyclists, and then there's the word 'ONLY' under it. Hmmmmm tricky. I know, I'll drive over this bloody great twenty foot sign painted in the road saying roughly the same thing, including the word 'ONLY' and ignore the other signs as well because they're not of a colour to my liking."
Seriously, if they're not happy with the colour of the pole signs, what colour should the sign in the road be then?

They are the same signs as bus lanes. People should be used to them.

How many car parking bays used to be in the market place and if the returned them and then did away with the same number from the Wharf then used the land the area that the pidgeon loft requires that WBC own on the Park Way side of the river pehaps they could build a 2 way bridge that every one could use with some of there unspent s106 money. Oh but they won't as they would lose there cash cow wouldn't they
