Hi Theepwood,
For The Jack (o' Newbury) Hotel that was demolished to make way for the Marks and Spencers Store in 1934 (see it was going on even then) I refer you to forum article /1244808992/ posted June 12th 2009.

Yeah, you see I was trying to be just a little subtle. I was posted a picture of the 'Diamond Tap' and suggested it was the site of a cattle market. (Geddit)? Oh never mind...

Sorry Threepwood, I managed to send the post before I was finished it. I was going to add " under the heading The Jack Hotel, Newbury, circa 1932." As you may remember I am working on some old cine film that was taken by H.T. Cadd who (thanks to all you members of the forum giving me the information) I find was the son of Horace and Maude Cadd who were proprietors of The Jack Hotel until it was demolished (1934) and who then moved to The Bear at Hungerford until the death of Horace in 1938. We have discovered that Maude then had the hair dressing business opposite The Bear but we have not been able to trace the descendants of H.T.

I am still working on the bits and pieces of film that make up the collection but I hope to have it finished soon. All the subject are of short duration and very "bitty" but anyone who is interested in the past,  especially those "bits" that are of Newbury  I am sure will find it interesting.

You are far too quick for me in every respect, - but then, not being a native of Newbury I would not get "the joke"

JACK OF "NEWBURY" never came from Newbury....he came TO Newbury...married his dead bosses widow and could not help but get richer by the day,as history tells us,he was in the new cloth trade[VODAFONE has similarities]    YES he probably would approve,as he changed the old place a bit, too!
