I have several pictures of Thatcham mainly from about 1905. I know this is a Newbury thread and it might be rude to post them here but I will if you want.....

Toe in the water then, this is, as you can see titled Newtown. I'm not a Thatcham person so have no idea if this area is still known as this. I believe the houses were known as the twelve apostles.

Everybody will recognise this although you would get wiped out in about five seconds if you stood there now to take the same picture

This picture means nothing to me but I'm sure that one of our Thatcham residents can give us the sp.

This 1905 picture will probably be unchanged today.

I'm about Thatchamed out although I have a couple more but you'll have to wait for those.

Thatcham House is still there today, it's round the back of Kennet School.

Newtown was the name for the area immediately to the East of Henwick Lane I think, but I could be mistaken.

Wasn't that Roy's first book? Surely there have been Thatcham books since.

Watch out for his next book - Newbury: Road by Road (put it on your Christmas list).

I promise, these are the last two. Both postmarked with a Thatcham frank in Nov 1905,

These houses are on the main A4 between Northfield Road Traffic Lights and American Golf Discount - they fetch a very tidy penny too, and rarely go on sale. My friend lives in one and still has all of the original fireplaces and quarry stone hallway - beautiful !
