Could anyone help us?

I am a member of the Earl Rivers’ regiment (English Civil War Re-enactment) I’ve been given the task to organise an annual Regimental party in Newbury, however I’ve come on a blank trying to find a appropriate property to book, ideally,

We need a village hall or building that has some character i.e beams looks quite old
Can be booked for 2 days on a small budget
Have mod cons available
Within walking distance of a pub
Able to contain up to 100 people.
Has land for up to 5 caravans

As it will be in the winter, we will also need to sleep in the hall.
Does this fit any halls, buildings within 2 miles of newbury??

Suggestions welcome..

This forum does seem to have taken a nasty turn of late with a very few members being very obnoxious to new posters.

This is one of those occasions that I would have to agree with you. Perhaps it is time to cull certain members.

At the same time as I was ribbing Terry that his lot lost in 1663 and 1664 I also p.m'd him with the details and names and phone numbers etc of the people who I thought could help him most in his quest. And good luck to him.

As usual Dodgy (and, it appears, some others) went off on one without access to the full information.

This forum is no different than several years ago, other than there are fewer posters.  Rather than just cull members, why not simply advise members when they are out of line, then 'cull' them if they don't conform?

I been popping in and out of this forum for around 5 years now, I've change my broadband supplier a few times so when I forgotten my password on here so I could not access my old e-mail accounts to recover my forgotten password. So I have just re-registered.

English civil war re-enactment is not everyone’s cup of tea, you can be viewed as a bit odd/strange and on the odd occasion you can get ribbed for it.

I’ve lived in Newbury all my Life and was born into the Sealed knot, so really the dressing up is second nature to me, the satisfaction you get dressing up not only to re-create battles but also hosting living history encampments.

My Wife and myself volunteer to go round schools in Newbury, teaching the basics on the English Civil war is very satisfying that you given a child a chance to understand something that happened in their country 360 years ago, sadly the current Schools curriculum gives this part of our history a quick overview.

To be honest we have over 6,000 members in the Society from all ages and all walks of life, I'm 3rd generation in the society and it's given me and my children the chance to travel the whole of the U.k seeing stately homes and Historic sites also having loads of fun with family and friends, giving me a good start in life. Children today want to sit and play with their x-box or play-station, or hang round in groups because they’re bored.

Thank you Threpwood for you PM.
I still would like so more ideas on locations if you don’t mind posting them below.

Well perhaps you ought to add a "Smiley" so other's know if you are serious or joking! We are not mindreaders, and it is here for all to see!

I do remember as children in the 60's, we had respect for our elders and for law and order. We would never talk to a policeman in the way some of these little scroats do these days.

Shhhh......was hoping no-one would notice. See, I could have gone back and changed it...but I knew there wouldn't be many on here that actually knew the dates. Blame Kronenbourg (geddit)?

Mind you, despite all the trapping off that went on, very few seem to actually done owt to help the lad..

To an extent, he's asking for the Moon a on a stick.  To be frank: I doubt there's much round here that ticks all his boxes.
