Has anyone noticed the very confusing lane markings on this junction, especially coming from the town to turn right towards the Burger King junction. |

When layout changes are made, confusion is bound to follow. |

Confusing, when travelling from the town centre to turn right towards Burger King you enter the roundabout in the right hand lane, staying in the right had lane, the lane markings say Store & 339, if you follow the dotted lines in the road you are led towards the store. It would have been much better and safer if the standard roundabout rule applied and that is, left hand lane for 1st and 2nd exits, right hand lane for anything else. An accident waiting to happen is my conclusion. |

I totally agree with you, Brian.
Now that the roadworks (I presume) are finished on this roundabout, I wish to point out further confusion caused by them.
Kings Road towards the roundabout, prior to the resurfacing, arrows on the road indicate the nearside lane for turning left AND going straight on!
On the resurfaced section, the arrows and road markings indicate that the nearside lane is for turning left ONLY.
The road sign on this section infers there are three lanes, the middle on for the town centre.
And I thought this was supposed to be an improvment! |

I went round 4 times before I could find the exit to my way home! Good though, I met a load of people I hadn't seen for a long time! |

No it doesn't, it implies.
According to http://www.dictionary.cominfers –verb (used with object) 1. to derive by reasoning; conclude or judge from premises or evidence: They inferred his displeasure from his cool tone of voice. 2. (of facts, circumstances, statements, etc.) to indicate or involve as a conclusion; lead to. 3. to guess; speculate; surmise. 4. to hint; imply; suggest.—Usage note Infer has been used to mean “to hint or suggest” since the 16th century by speakers and writers of unquestioned ability and eminence: The next speaker criticized the proposal, inferring that it was made solely to embarrass the government. Despite its long history, many 20th-century usage guides condemn the use, maintaining that the proper word for the intended sense is imply and that to use infer is to lose a valuable distinction between the two words. Although the claimed distinction has probably existed chiefly in the pronouncements of usage guides, and although the use of infer to mean “to suggest” usually produces no ambiguity, the distinction too has a long history and is widely observed by many speakers and writers. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/infers+ |

One man's meat............... anyway Brewmaster, you knew what it meant, even if you did think the terminology incorrect. Does it really matter?
The object of the exercise was not to invoke criticism. |

I am actually liking the new layout of the roundabout but why, oh why would two bikers choose to go in the left hand lane from Bear Lane to then want to go right up the A339 towards Burger King. I was in the right hand lane to go to Sainsbury's and very nearly had one of these guys off. It really made me feel sick in 15 years of driving I have never been that close to hitting someone before...... |

Because the way the markings have changed priority, or advise direction, then the first time you hit the roundabout, the new lane could be quite different from the original. I got caught out today when coming out of Bear Lane wanting to go to Sainsbury. One now needs the right hand exit from Bear Lane whereas before the left exit was for both Mill Lane and Sainsbury's and the right was for the A339 South. It will take a while so watch out, especially when the kids start back and the school taxis hit the roundabout for the first time. |

It is always difficult to try and explain by word alone when trying to describe something but hopefully you have seen it and know what I am rambling on about.
I don't understand when coming back from Sainsburys towards the roadabout the left hand lane has a left hand and a straight on arrow - the right hand lane has a straight on arrow (and possibly a right hand one too). Then after the pedestrian crossing there is a white zig zag lane down the middle of the two lanes before they split into four. I think this again is going to cause much confusion and probably road rage as surely it should be right hand lane to go straight on or right and left hand lane to take the two lanes up to Burger King? |

You missed the smiley off the end there. How else are we supposed to know that you are joking? |

What did the human race do before smileys and lol were invented to show we were joking? Actually there is probably a dissertation there for someone about communicating with the written word with strangers. |

Do you have a problem with the word. Like to joke with your mates about it, sniggering in the corner, "What they need is a good man."etc etc. |

I would like to see some lane markings on the A339 long before I reach the roundabout. A small stretch of road 5 or 6 yards long just before the roundabout doesn't really give you chance to get in the right lane. |

West Berks Highways Dept., deny that any markings are wrong, and that all lane, road and sign markings are perfectly clear - to the extent that a second contact from me pointing out where they were confusing, has been totally ignored - they have failed to even acknowledge or reply.
Perhaps if more people complain! |

A small stretch of road 5 or 6 yards long just before the roundabout doesn't really give you chance to get in the right lane.
Especially when there is a particularly large lorry in front of you. |

I think the new layout from Sainsburys to go to the Robin Hood is better, I was always having people in the left lane coming round on the old layout even though it was clearly marked by the sign & road marking that that was town centre only.
My main gripe now are the numpties coming through Stockcross in the mornings B4000 that think using the right lane is acceptable to go straight across at the main roundabout when coming across the bypass into Newbury.
It is a single carriageway exit with no merge arrows so its left lane straight across. |
